MIDWAY Veteran’s Book Fair

Getting ready to participate in the USS MIDWAY Veteran’s Book Fair in San Diego next Saturday. I fly out Friday. The Fair is Saturday. Details about the book fair is at www.veteransbookfair.org

Army-Navy Club Book Forum

We held a very successful and fun presentation at the Army-Navy Club in Washington DC on 23 September. The interchange during the Q&A was lively. If you haven’t visited the Army-Navy Club, it well worth the effort to wrangle an invitation. The library is fantastic, probably the finest collection of military history and important first editions in the country.

Book Event on the USS MIDWAY on 8 Nov

Book enthusiasts are invited to attend the Military Book Fair on November 8th from
10 am to 4 pm. This book fair is unique because it will take place on the aircraft
carrier USS Midway, located in San Diego Harbor. You will have the opportunity buy one or more
books at the Midway/Fair bookstore and have them signed, as well as a chance to listen to the
authors during panel sessions. Just buy a $20 Midway ticket and you get the Fair along with a tour
of the aircraft carrier. The added benefit is that you will be helping our military, because all
proceeds go to several veterans’ organizations.

Don’t let the title fool you. In attendance (other than myself) will be authors from
various genres, almost fifty in total, including Catherine Coulter, Charles and Caroline Todd,
James Rollins, Ted Bell, C. J. Lyons, T. Jefferson Parker, Jan Burke, D. P. Lyle, Iris and Roy
Johansen, Amy Hatvany, Andrew Kaplan, Jan Burke, and Dale Brown. The panels will start at 10 am
with “Veteran Characters”; 11:15 am will be “Female Heroines”; 12:30 pm “Hot and Cold Wars”; 3 pm
“Terrorists and Politics” and ending with “Guns and Needles” at 4 pm.

In addition at 2 pm there will be a Q/A with Hank Steinberg, the executive director
of the television shows “The Last Ship” and “Without A Trace.”

Hank and all the panel authors will sign books bought ONLY at the Midway
bookstore directly after the panel discussion. For a small additional cost, you can purchase photo
opportunities, fast pass tickets, and a personal written note from an author answering a question.
Just go to the bookstore to pay for these fabulous extras.

If you want an “up close and personal” experience, buy a discounted ticket and you can join the
authors after the book fair at a cocktail party on the Midway flight deck from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
During the cocktail party, you can enjoy a performance from recording artist Jessica Sanchez, last
season’s “American Idol” runner up. At the cocktail party, you will enjoy a silent auction, food,
drinks, prizes, an author five-‐ minute heads up on “what’s on the horizon” regarding any future
projects, and a meet and greet with most of the fifty authors.

If you have any questions please see our website: www.militarybookfair.org

New Director for Hunter-Killer

Relativity Media has announced a new director for Hunter-Killer, their production based on our book FIRING POINT. https://movies.yahoo.com/news/steven-quale-direct-hunter-killer-relativity-exclusive-003700181.html Steven Quale, director of In to the Storm (due out this summer) will direct. He has worked extensively with James Cameron, including on Avatar and Titanic. Should be exciting.

Update

OPERATION GOLDEN DAWN is now available both on Kindle and paperback through Amazon.

We had good books signings in my home town, Jewett, Ohio and Columbus on the weekend of 19 Oct with the profits going to Navy Relief.

Also had a very good book signing at the Naval Submarine League Fall Symposium. Completely sold out of all my copies of FINAL BEARING, FIRING POINT, and OPERATION GOLDEN DAWN.

Latest Update on Hunter Killer

Latest Update on Hunter Killer, the movie that Relativity Media is making based on our book, FIRING POINT. This is an excerpt from an interview that IndieWire did with Antoine Fuqua on 28 Feb.

“VM: Are you still attached to direct ‘Hunter Killer’ with Gerard Butler?

AF: Yes, it’s one of my projects, absolutely. There are several films that directors are passionate about, that you really like and really want to make, but sometimes the stars don’t line up together to come as fast for a lot of different reasons, and others come together much faster. But it’s something I’m attached to, and still love the story.”
