It looks like China’s Hishow Entertainment has purchased the distribution rights to Hunter killer, the movie based on our book Firing Point.
Well, the 2016 edition of the Annual Naval Submarine League Symposium is now history. As usual, it was time to catch up with a lot of old friends and shipmates, as well as meet a lot of new friends. This Symposium was little special for us. With the filming of Hunter Killer well underway, there was a lot of excitement, both official and unofficial, about the movie. It’s fun to have the CNO discuss the filming with you and to have SUBPAC discuss it during his presentation.
And, as if that weren’t enough. Don and I won Second Place in the Submarine League Literary Awards for excerpts from Dangerous Grounds that appeared in the August 2016 issue of the Submarine Review. Now, your favorite authors are your favorite Award Winning Authors.
I will be speaking and signing books at the Alexandria (VA) Navy Officers Wives Book Club on 3 Oct. Looking froward to a fun event.
We’re back from an exciting trip to the studio in London where Millennium is filming Hunter Killer. We spent three days on set at Ealing Studio watching the filming (the NDA we signed prevents me telling you story-line details or taking any pictures on set). Spent time speaking with Gerard Butler, Jerry to his friends 😉 Met Donovan Marsh, the Director, and a whole host of producers (there were seven producers on set). Everyone was very nice and gave us the Red Carpet treatment.
Also managed to get down to Portsmouth for a day. Toured the Royal Navy Dockyard there and HMS Victory. Bit of a bus-man’s holiday and some research. Pictures of that trip to follow.
Millennium started filming Hunter Killer today in London. It’s hard to believe, but Don and I finished the book Firing Point in 2005. Arne Schmidt and I wrote the first screenplay (of many) in 2007. Now, we are finally making a movie. Penny and I are heading to London to see a little of the filming in a few days. Time to raise a glass to making a movie!
The book signing at the Navy Museum for the benefit of the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society was a big success. We sold a lot of books and raised a good bit of money for NMCRS. Met a lot of new friends and talked with a lot of old ones. Thank you to everyone who came out and donated to a great cause (and bought some great books)
The location for our book signing to benefit Navy Marine Corps Relief has changed once again. (Maybe I’ll write a book about dealing with Navy lawyers.) We will be in the Navy Museum on the Washington Navy Yard. Same time and date 28 June 1100- 1400. See you there.
Here is an article on the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society blog site about our upcoming book signing>
Submariners Turned Authors Contribute to Society: Meet them June 28
Put 28 June on your calendar. Rick Campbell and I are doing a book signing for the benefit of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. If you are not familiar with NMCRS, this is the Navy and Marines helping their own since 1904. http://www.nmcrs.org/
The signing will be in Building 22 ( in the Food Court area) on the Washington Navy Yard from 1130 to 1400. Come on out and meet two of the best (and best looking) submarine authors. 😉 And support a great cause.
